Parthenium weeds and AAdu thoda elai.. herbal plants . uses for humans.....and causes for allergy...

Parthenium weed in India…..harmful effects……Aada Thoda Elai…( Tamil)…its uses

Parthenium hysterphorus  .....      Parthenium weed in India…..harmful effects……Aada Thoda Elai…( Tamil)…its uses

Parthenium hysterphorus   is a weed in North America, Asia, Africa and Australia.  The   growth of this weed may affect the cultivation of various crops and it is not known what is the usefulness of the plant   either as fodder or for any medicinal purposes.

Incidentally asthma an allergy causing breathing discomfort to many connected to lungs on account of swelling or narrowing down the air passages of humans and the allergy caused as a result of external matter is found advised.    Parthenium pollens are also found to contribute towards such episodes The said parthenium plant grows in large areas without needing any seeds, fertilizer, water etc for its growth. The flowers perhaps decorate any house being white in color almost resembling jasmine flowers. It has no smell or irritating nature if we touch it.

The pollen grains found in the   flowers of the weed is supposed to pass though the walls leading to lungs through respiratory organs in humans. The effect would be blockage of passage in the passage carrying air leading to the episode of asthma…and in the process reduction in outflow of carbon di oxide from the system and reduced intake of oxygen required for vital functions of human body. The occurrence of asthma is thus found more in places having large areas growing the weed Parthenium. We have seen in Bangalore and places of Bihar where it is found grown, Perhaps this plant or its leaves or flower are not eaten by any cattle nor used by humans as a vegetable. We have heard large areas of parthenium   grown being removed by social workers for avoiding asthma attacks to the population. However its growth occurs regularly in many places. If you cut the stem it may grow again, if you uproot it it may come again may be some chemical elements applied to soil may avoid its growth.

The opinion above may not be fully true as it is not on any medical research or analysis by the author. In contrast to this we have heard of a plant  Adu thoda elai  ( Tamil)…grown in Bihar may be in Tamilnadu  along sides of fields, roads, etc,,,  I have seen them near  Lalgudi,, Pettavathalai, Valadi, Jeeyapuram,  Thirumanur, etc in Tiruchirapalli  Tamilnadu  along the paddy fields…The leaves are  not eaten by cattle as it is heard to be poisonous. However it is heard to be useful for curing cough, asthma, vomiting blood, etc…here also it is not medically proved I think….Also it is useful in improving quality of voice and reducing all respiratory problems Leaves of these plants are not eaten by goats as it is bitter and hence the name AAdu thoda elai.

The effect of such plants and weeds on humans is found surprising as one is useful to the population and the other  harmful . It is possible that by weeding out such unwanted plants and growing the useful plants humanity can be helped or saved from episodes of asthma and paving way for a healthy society….Nature   or  God  provides us many things for our peaceful and healthy  existence which we shall make use..

I shall dwell on other causes for asthma in a later blog post…
