My personal Computer ,,,,,,old is gold....

My personal computer …finally reduced to a screen, keyboard and CPU all replaced…

My personal computer …finally reduced to a screen, keyboard and CPU all replaced…

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I bought my first personal computer a desktop in 2000 while I was in Tuticorin in Tamilnadu.  I don’t remember the brand name   some   Solitaire or Solidaire or something .It was not from HP, Dell, Microsoft or Apple as these names we not heard by me then. It had a monitor, CPU, Keyboard, two external speakers brand Microtek and one HP printer probably I got it later from Coimbatore I don’t member. The floppy discs were in use then which is not used now. Of course we have pen drive and all other external storage devices now. I narrate the history of events when each part got replaced, gifted, repaired etc and finally the external speakers Microtek also got replaced yesterday. The total cost of the whole system was around Rs 32000 if I remember correct and the prices have become much cheaper now. The book value of the computer will be less than Re 1 today   since it is over nineteen years after it was bought.

During my visit to USA in 1993 I had occasion to see almost all these parts in personal computers and use them I learnt about computer operations during my stay in USA in my  younger brother’s house where I had gone on 6 month’s tourist visa. He used to guide   me   about   basics of computer and we used to have some Operating system I don’t remember if it   was Windows etc and internet had not come to use by public. During my visits to various places in USA I used to spend a part of time using Computer, learning the basics and also prepared a database of various places visited   and had it printed using a printer attached to the personal computer.

Again in 1999 or so I got a Note Book computer from my brother      which   we call laptop now without much features and used to operate it with no provision for internet facility and communication.

While using the computer bought in 2000 there was no internet connectivity for public …the mechanic who supplied computer used to come and install some internet connectivity for limited period on payment. , However I had to   got    to   browsing shop for sending any message to my son who was in USA since 2000 and this computer became operational for internet communication after some months. The computer I was using to see   results   online and convey  of my daughter who was studying Medicine in   PERUNDURAI,  Medical College  ,Erode, TN  and also of her classmates and inform periodically.

Now that eighteen years are over many changes happened to my computer.  On each occasion   son or daughter used to visit India they used to bring and leave on laptop at home for use and throw or sale. In addition they used to bring one screen, keyboard or CPU or microphone, etc   My    elder brother Ananthanarayanan   who was staying nearby in Besanthnagar used to have two or three computers at his home with a local area net work etc.   Whenever I go to his house he was busy with the computers being a retired man and much interested in various activities like world news, Astrology, Medicine ,Music etc So I remember having given one of my CPU and screen or monitor to him which he used to connect to his net work system , In the process of having some Office work like inquiry reports against staff members of the Bank etc I used the printer by getting A4 papers etc and later removed the printer as it occupied space and printing found not required after retirement .Of course in the house I have connected the computer to one of the lines of power supply coming from Power  Inverter or UPS   and as such the UPS which was previously attached to the computer also  removed  and kept in a safe loft in the house. Meantime keyboards have been changed occasionally while getting one during return of USA visits or the children and others coming etc.

Ultimately the Microtek speaker was remaining connected to the PC although not used. It was yesterday I got by Amazon a packet containing a      small    size        external  speakers for the computer sent by my son Rajesh. I removed the old Speakers and connected the new ones. However I felt sorry in throwing away the old speakers and instead have kept them safe in some place in the house.

My son, son in law, daughter and daughter in law all tell me when the y visit India and    see   my possession that is the    Personal Computer to throw away the present PC and get a new one. But I like to retain it with its hard discs etc all filled with thousands of Photos, Blogs, writings, so many other matters etc, which they do not know. This is after    deleting many unwanted photos, posts etc as the   disks   are almost full and no place for g mail   , Face book   or any   other things.
We or I feel sad to throw away or discard old things but like to keep them safe as a contemporary for me. See the picture of External speaker disconnected yesterday but preserved for future and kept safe along with discarded UPS, Printer, and monitors   etc.. .

Again   my wife always complains that   I keep all old things for years together and get unnecessary things now   and   them. Even this new speaker she was asking me why     do            you get a new one when the old one is working   and that you are wasting money. But I tell her   to retain   things belonging to her remaining for decades in the house   like I got her one MERRITT sewing   Machine in 1974 at Rs 320. .from LRDE Canteen, Bangalore   through my elder brother Sundaram who was with LRDE after my marriage in 1974..It   was given to her as present by me so that she would   be engaged in work at home ,Although the  sewing machine has accompanied us   to various places of posting in India  say around 21 during my service in Bank I have  never found her using it anytime.
So that is our liking for anything old and in life also we feel happy that children, grandchildren etc like as may be because we are old and getting older.  OLD is   gold
. Given   below is the picture of my speakers temporarily    discarded

Today is my star birthday.........

Today is my star birthday..., Today is my star birthday
Mrigasheersham. As usual birthday is something each one remembers . Since stock of wheat bread was over in the morning, I had to skip my breakfast. After returning from morning walk had one biscuit found lying on the dining table. She is out of town has gone to attend marriage of her sister in law’s sister’s daughter- at Tiruchirapalli today . Generally she attends marriages without me as she wants to be free on such occasions and may have many secrets to share with her relatives. For lunch managed with mullangi sambar she had made yesterday by reheating and made some curry with ladies fingers..Curd was there.I used to be advised to consume vendakkai to become strong in thinking or Mathematics and it is my favorite. It is doubtful if it really helped my ability in any field. Afternoon decided to drink coffee without sugar. As a gesture decided to skip dinner for the reason cooking for a single person that too older by one year today is not found wise..She comes late in night by train from Tiruchirapalli and just now got a telephonic Call that she may go via Pondicherry since train is running late and would return tomorrow early morning from Pondicherry. On this day I took the decision to lead simple life with less eating and no feasting and occasional fasting. That is my star birthday. On any birthday it is really true that we are born again and think of what we have done all these past years.I too ponder over past ,recall some deeds, incidents, episodes, and feel happy having been in the midst of many good people.May be taking oath to do good things in future is a regular phenomenon which none complies with. Being in the group of my friends this message is sent to you. Neither new dress or sweets or party for birthday as we lead a simple life.My nephew came just now and invited for dinner somewhere...I told him a lie saying maami is returning from Tiruchirapalli by 7 PM and I have to cook and keep ready  for her also

I did not like to marry a graduate.....

I hear the following nephew and nieces of my non graduate wife Brindhalakshmi  getting graduated in May 2018 in USA.

Harish Babu son of Arunachalam...PhD....Texas university at Dallas in May 2018

Srilakshmi  daughter of Balakrishnan ..MS Bimmanghton University of New York in May 2018

Varsha daughter of Ananthanarayanan MS ..Bimmanghton university in May 2018

Saraswathi Hathikal sister in law of Harish getting her MS from Bhimmanghton university.

The other day my granddaughter Poorvi was telling about her Graduation from Kindergarten School ...Appleseed school ...Santa Clara CA..due in May end 2018.I USA they have graduation event at each grade of school from Kindergarten to Post Doctorate.

I was recollecting to my memory  how I married my wife BRINDHALAKSHMI  in 1974 who was not a graduate.I recall I got promotion as Officer in Bank one month after marrying her ...May be she was lucky to have an Officer husband whom she could manage later.

While I was working in Bank of  India Bangalore since 1968 , my father was particular I got married as decided by him and my mother.May be he was suspicious that I would love someone in the Office and marry without their consent Incidentally there were many offers from my seniors in Office for their daughters as they found bright future in me a Graduate in Science .Those days a University Graduate was considered a person with bright future...Engineering,Medical or Computer graduates or Chartered Accountants were less and commanded higher market value.

It was informed to me that one good girl a double graduate with a Law degree working in a  Bank was ready in the list as inquired by her father some Saptharishi who was a Criminal Advocate in Bangalore or so .Initially I was attracted at the offer, later I analyzed and foresaw that the matching may not work. It was suggested by the Girl's father I could join his Law firm and me and his daughter could work as juniors. But I thought it might not work as she may get separated or I may leave her being the result of both being argumentative.Of course there would be no love between the lawyers or liars as they are called .

Of course I had desired to marry my neighbor cumulative relative's daughter Bhanu who was a drop out from school but was innocent and used to see my mother in her.It did not materialize. In Bank where I worked I did not make any attempt ...although there were young and responsible girls available.

Of course I had agreed marrying any good girl ..So my father got me the present wife ..not a university graduate but a little more than that.I had once reported about her. She cooks well, talks well and fights with all and generally not obedient ...These qualities I consider enough to treat her as a Graduate  and I recognize it.. but am sure these are hidden characters of women we are unable to test and find out before marriage...She was from a village Andipatti...Madurai .Tamilnadu ..had finished her SSLC and become a major reaching the age of eighteen... at the time of marriage ...and perhaps agreed marrying a dark person like me being a graduate and staying in a city like Bangalore.

Of course my opinion about not marrying a Graduate was that being a Graduate she would question me for any action .Again if she were earning she would not respect me or care me .As against this a non graduate would know less but would bring up the family, take care of the family etc.  This is a real story. My only specifications were ...she should be lean,fair,good-looking , not wearing glasses, curly haired, homecoming and knowing cooking and obeying elders and me .She satisfied the requirements. Of course we got our horoscopes compared and found matching...That was how I did not marry a Graduate or Double Graduate.

Of course I console myself realizing matches and marriages are held in heaven and so what to do?

This is the black and white photo of my wife Brindhalakshmi her parents sent to my parents to approve. By comparison she appeared of white complexion and I was and am black in color.

Song of a grandfather in America

Neither am a Night Watchman in Cricket Match,
Nor a Goal keeper in  soccer or football watch,
Remain as Daycare father or mother great,
Enjoy the visit as a Baby sitter or grandfather right..

Enjoy the dawn of morning see smiling face of toddler,
Feed him milk, formula, semi solid and fruit matter,
Get bitten by incisors erupt as six months old,
Pat and touch at back help him sleep as told.

Little deeds of kids remind us go,
Acts of love we showered and felt  years ago,
When we too played ,learnt and troubled them as kids,
Parents were from   of God who take care of us for all odds.

What is life without love we feel and remember and remain,
One between the man and woman in love which rarely remain,
The strong one among siblings and children of parents  so dear,
The strongest being love of father and mother to children  for ever.

Dress him warm with cloth  and shining
Make him sit in high chair standing,
change bib or diaper and  do wiping ,
Clean   overflowing mouth of liquid  after eating,

Support him stand amidst crawling ,sitting and climbing,
Cover the sleeping kid in crib with warm clothing,
Watch him steal and taste particles lying on ground ,
Pull him back while  crawling behind grandma old ,
Moves around the  island in kitchen and rooms around,
He pulls  all electric power  cable attached in wall good.

Fever or cold he faces with infection,
Medicines and care of parents found for perfection,
He joins us see TV programs when free in noon,
Dance of Jimikki  kamal  dance  and others seen.

In guarded stroller we take him out,
Go to the Murdock park in and out,
Allow his father  work throughout,
Assist us complete our daily workout.

This is the routine  life of senior grandparents,
Who live in America as visitors and parents,
Of children who were kids sometime  thus,
And bestow  their children as gifts for us.

Thoughts of a man

I am in cloud surrounded by big data  sockets,

When I hear terms as Blockchain and crypto currency brackets,

Plummeting of Bitcoin ,New York  or Asian stock markets,

Hidden in swift leading to  frauds in Indian Banks,

Read terms as Hypoglycemia,Hyperglycemia and HbA1C levels and test probability,

Permuting   Metformin and Glymepiride  capacity,

Life is a drama continuing against age,

Age being a Determinant for any action in old age,

Watson and artificial intelligence alone have,

Made me Think in 2018 and save

Don't get him anything...he will spoil everything....

Chitra   Don't get him anything.....he will spoil everything....

This is in a lighter vein.

Black Friday.....in the United States..

Is the day after Thanksgiving Day and the Friday before Cyber Monday...in the United States. It is a busy shopping day and is a holiday in some states...

Many people have a day off work or choose to take a day away from their quota of annual leave on Black Friday. Some people make it to make trips to see family members or friends who live in other areas. Many shops have special offers on some goods,gadgets,toys,etc....

We went to some mall or shop.... Target .. on the Black Friday...There were various electronic gadgets, costumes ,I phones,Chrome cast..,Robots,..etc..I was watching some of them and the crowd of Asian or Indian population buying truckloads of toys, gadgets at cheap rates..and the fair colored others too.... Our daughter Chitra also bought some items like ceramic jars,cups,etc...Of course I remember our son Rajesh waiting for the Black Friday at 12 noon  years back for getting some Samsung TV ...62 inches LED ..etc I don't know all these....from a Mall ...got it for 200 US D or so....and brought home....USD was at Rs.30 0r so then.Nowadays they get all items booked online before a Fridays and get good deal..

Black Friday falls on the Friday succeeding the Thanksgiving day which falls on 4 th  Thursday in October every year..in USA....and second Monday of October in Canada, etc.  Thanksgiving day has historical roots in religious and cultural traditions ,it has long been celebrated as a secular holiday as well...Turkey meat is prepared and shared by all family members on the occasion of the get together of all members of the family....among other activities of Americans.

I had brought my Microsoft smartphone from India owned by my wife to USA as she uses the phone only telephoning to her relatives or friends....she doesn't even know to locate the phone numbers in phone and seeks my help.Last month when we reached here my daughter offered her I phone to me...her Samsung PC also.Being on Baby sitting..work..
taking care of Vaibhav the grandson, not able to use PC often.of course I have brought my kindle tablet with charger,etc....and thus managing the. Needs. She as mentioned earlier talks well, cooks well, etc and is busy ...

The other day my son in law offering me a Laptop...Acer I think... a new  one...My wife came running...Don't get him anything...he spoils everything and spoils  all my phone's...etc....

Perhaps the following items I have touched and got burnt..at home ...
4 or 5 Cordless phones by connecting thing them to 210 V at India,
Some Lenova Computers, her phones,wristwatches,some cameras...walkie talkie,CD player,etc......
What to do ? My mental status does not remain serious, attentive, active or orderly and thus the result....Things fall down from my hands.....

Even at home although being the sole earner and has some assets she, my spouse  is the controller of all finances.  and takes credit for all good things we have and tags me to all bad things I possess being obedient to her....Even for using my Bank cards I need her approval....Of course she is helpful to all....and I endeavor to be useful to the world ...

Of course I like to be careful...like all to be good....

Pooja..naivedyam etc at home.....

Chitra RaPooja …functions….. Neivedyam…etc. at home…
____________________________________________
When some male or female coparcener passes away in the joint Hindu family, it is customary to observe certain restrictions on our celebrating festivals, doing some pooja, etc… for one day, three days, and one month, One year etc.may be these are written in some books which I could not lay hand nor enquire about it through Face book… or not written anywhere on books but continued as custom or practice followed by ancestors from generation..

During last three months a coparcener of self and another of my spouse left the world and thus the incidence of such a period occurred. Of course both had crossed 83 years of age and had lived a satisfactorily contented lives with most of their children being Engineers, doctors etc married and a few of them settled in US .Following the advice of elders or the oral advice of our Vadhyars, elder people or patties etc in the house etc we have decided not to celebrate any functions in the house for one year from the date of occurrence of any death in the family.

Today the 29th Sept.. Being Saraswathi Pooja.. the restriction as as applicable now…we did not do any pooja except worshipping a photo of goddess saraswathi as usual. But it was evening when I was talking to my sister in law in Bangalore she said we should keep all books for puja under Saraswathi photo and read books from tomorrow despite all these restrictions in force. So it became necessary for me to serach some books on subjects like Income Tax, Computer, Watson, Sanskrit, Cooking etc and keep them in pooja for reading from tomorrow. Meantime for the last one week or nine days our neighbor Palghat Iyer Maami who is not under such restrictions invites my spouse to their house everyday to see golu , sing songs and get prasdam The maamis bring me golu prasadams everyday when my spouse is away. Today also I wait for some Chundal, Pattani, Payaru, etc from the good neighbors.

Generally what they mean is we should not in a happy mood and celebrate the functions such as Pondukalukku Idal, or say Dievathukku idal,Bhagavathi sevai, and poojas at temple and also do not conduct any poojas etc at some temples and more so in Siva temples. However exceptions are that you can participate in Avani avittam, Deepavali, conduct marriages, seemantham etc etc and some of them without making it a function making special sweets etc..In particular we are told not to go twosome important Siva or Ayyappa temples for some months..Etc. However small functions like children”s or grandchildren”s birthday etc can be celebrated..

In addition we are also told not to participate and attend unimportant marriages etc of others not related to us..…In particular if there is some pooja or something thereof we shouldn’t participate in it. In particular any naivedyam or prasadam etc made and offered during Navarathri, Deepavali etc are banned.

However my daughter in USA is allowed to observe all functions including Golu etc and son at Fremont CA is covered under the restrictions as applicable to us.
However conveying happy Sarswathi Pooja or acknowledging same from others through Face book, Whatsapp, Twitter etc. are not specifically banned. I convey all best wishes for the whole year for all functions festivals etc through this medium.

THIRUTT KADAI OR IRUTTUKKADAI HALWA IT TASTES WELL

Thiruttu kadai halwa or Iruttukadai halwa. ......It tastes well….
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We come across several special eatable items with the name of a place tagged to it like Tirupathi laddu,Sabarimalai Aravana   payasam, and many others.…Of course these have gained importance or special choice on account of reasons associated with its preparation, use of ingredients, demand ..Supply factor, etc resulting in good taste.

I just recollect a few of them as under…

Kovilapatti kadalai urundai
Mysore Bonda
Madhur vadey
Thoothukkudi Macrons,
Hospet Menasinakai Bajji
Pune..Or Lonawala Chikki
Dadar Halwa
Thirunelveli halwa
Mysore Pak
Ambalappuzha Palpayasam,
Tirupathi Laddu,
Etc,,

I add an item in the list. Pathamadai Paai… (Mats).as requested by my spouse who hails from there.

Recently I had an occasion to buy some halwa packets as my wife was going to Bangalore alone for attending engagement function of my nephew’s daughter. And, as usual whenever she goes somewhere outside Chennai, carries with her packets of  some eatables for some selected relatives or friends.. It was just a one day trip before leaving had asked me to get some Iruttukadai halwa packets from a nearby shop among others to be given to some of the Bangalore relatives. I went to the shop and asked for Iruttukadai halwa when the shopkeeper corrected me saying it was IRUTTU KKADAI HALWA..May be I did not know its greatness. Later I found out it is made in Tirunelveli Tamilnadu in a hotel or shop under a light fluorescent lamp and for just an hour and half say 5.30 PM to 7 PM everyday using pure ghee and other materials using wheat etc.Mostly the ingredients were original and product tasty and on account of the limited stock made and the taste people used to flock to this Iruttukadai meaning dark shop and buy Halwa. Who ever goes to Tirunelveli does not miss this shop and buy Halwa after worshipping at    Nellaiappar the deity being Shiva     and other temples in Tirunelveli.

The IRUTTUKADAI HALWA has become world famous although several duplicate of similar brand halwa are available even online   through Amazon .com and others at very reasonable prize.

‘We had occasion to go to Trivandrum   Kerala three months back where we found that the same Halwa used to be got by some shops in Trivandrum from Tirunelveli everyday  and sold. Of course we did not buy it on account of certain personal health reasons.
After her leaving for Bangalore, I searched the fridge in the house and found she had kept one piece inside which I stealthily  took  and tasted it. ..It was nice despite standing instructions not to eat sweet items in large quantity..So it was just like a small Thiruttu..(Stealing) and hence the name suited to my action…THIRUTTU OF KADAI HALWAtra Rajesh Brindha Raghavan

Change of Doctor..reduction medicine and increase in fees .

Change of Doctor……reduction in medicine and increase in fees…
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Being senior citizens  we get some benefits under Income Tax or traveling by train or standing in some line .etc...…Of course being senior in age , we are also privileged to visit physicians periodically.

We shifted to Thiruvanmiyur   Chennai in 2010   from Mylapore area and immediately saw that there was a Physician nearby our house and a few Medical stores also  .Our new   physician who is a good person used to charge us reasonably like Rs 100 per visit plus charges for BP, Sugar, Weight etc  Rs 70 every time   and  would prescribe some essential medicines of strength 4X and some new Vitamins, Calcium , Protein-- tablets,   Mind Strengthening tablets, etc all found available in his   clinic   kept behind, The Medicine cost used to be 4 times his fees but since he was having his shop where  only you get his  prescribed extra medicines we were compelled to buy all these  from his shop  getting him  total profit.

Last month he shifted his clinic to OMR..Old Mahabalipuram Rd… about 5 KM away from us. Here the clinic used to be after 1 PM up to 3 PM or night after 9 PM being convenient to us.

After his shifting we searched for another Physician near our surroundings.. Finally we found out another Doctor meeting our needs… visiting a Hospital nearby regularly. He was nice although we have to wait for sometime..He looked at our   current prescriptions and reduced all medicines by around 75 percent thereby cost per month was reduced. But his fees per head he charged Rs 300 thereby adjusting the total cost resulting in gain to him.

My wife was telling our daughter in USA today that our new Doctor reduced all medicines but increased his fees. She didn’t say anything but asked us to follow food, diet, exercise and take medicines regularly.

We have to see the results of our diagnostic tests after taking these reduced medicine for 3 months
