Car batteries

Car batteries should not be put in the trash. Information about batteries can be found at www.austinrecycles.com/batteries.htm.

Carbonless forms

Pay-As-You-Throw customers can recycle carbonless forms by putting them in a brown paper grocery bag with other recyclable paper or in a separate recycling bin from their recyclable containers.

If you are not a Pay-As-You-Throw customer, consult your waste company or building manager about whether to put carbonless forms in your trash or in your recycling.

You can dispose of cell phones safely by donating them to Ecology Action or the Wireless Foundation. You may also want to check with the dealer where you bought the phone. Several are set up to collect used phones for safe disposal or recycling.

Cereal boxes

Solid Waste Services cannot recycle cereal boxes due to the low paper grade. Please put them in your trash, take them to Ecology Action's downtown drop off center for recycling, or compost them in your back yard.

Cleaning products

Residents of the City of Austin and Travis County should take leftover cleaning products free of charge to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.

Put them in your recycling bin with other recyclable containers. Please keep them separate from paper recycling.

If you are not a Pay-As-You-Throw customer, consult your waste company or building manager about whether to put plastic bottles in your trash or in your recycling.
