Happy when examinations were cancelled....

It was 1963 March when I had appeared for SSLC examination held by Mysore state Secondary Examination Board.I had papers like English, Social Studies,General Science, Mathematics,Sanskrit, Hindi and Kannada. My school and centre was Seshadripuram High School, Banglore.

After writing English,General Science comprising Physics, Chemistry,Bioligy and Mathematics I was happy the exams will be over soon within a week giving me relief from studying or pretending to be studying in front of parents. My parents were expecting I should get high marks, get a rank, study Medicine, become a Doctor or Collector. It was astonishing for
me to see the morning News Paper Deccan Herald that all the  5 exams held were cancelled since the question papers had leaked out.Ofcourse my parents asked me to recollect the books, guides, notes and prepare well for re exams. For me it was pain to study again from books I hardly opened and studied. The re exams were held ..I appeared again without any more preparation ...but couldnot get high marks.

In my efforts to get admission in a good College,I took my father to the Principal,St Joseph's college, Bangalore. My father requested the Principal to give a seat for PUC and told the Principal that I got less marks since the original examinations were cancelled and reexams held. The good Principal admitted me in the College and I came out of  the College with a BSC degree in 1967.Thus cancellation of SSLC examination helped me get a seat in St Joseph's College.

I was reminded of it hearing elections to RK Nagar  due on 12 th got cancelled by the Election Commission.Ofcourse the troubles for the electorate  and the parties must be immense...

Thondikulam ...my connections ..

I was born in Trichur in 1947.We hear people telling ...I hail from Palghat, Pathamadai,Vaikom,Tanjore, Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, etc. So I used to say I am from Palghat.
But the fact remains I donot have much connection or link with Thondikulam a village it gramam in Palghat. It appears there are over 100 gramams or agraharams in Palghat like Noorni,Kalpathi, Thondikulam, Tharakkad,Thathmangalam, etcThese are plsces where Brahmins migrated from Tanjore or Kumbakonam decades ago and settled..

Probably my father was not brought up in Palghat. He had his schooling in Ernakulam and College Education in Madras.Later he served in Cochin state service mostly neighbouring to Trichur. As such my link with Thondikulam  through him was less.

It was during my service in Bank I came across a few persons hailing from Thondikulam..

I was married to Brindhalakshmi of Andipatti her father hailing from Pathamadai and mother from Thondikulam. Her father's mother  Lakshmi also was from Thondikulam. But we did not know them being from same place Thondikulam before marriage as they too lived in Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, etc.

Thondikulam A Seshadri was my senior in Inspection and Audit. He was from Delhi or so and not much linked to Thondikulam.

Thondikulam Easwar Iyer Dhandayuthapani  was my senior in Branches and Audit.Incudentally his sister was my wife's aunt who had passed away much early in life.He studied in Nurani etc but had not much similarity with me as I never studied in Palghat.

Then Thondikulam Ramachandran Anantharaman was my colleague in Bank of India in Bangalore. He too lived in Banglore from birth so not much contact with Thondikulam. His father Ramachandran is my wife's uncle's or maama's son.My wife has never seen them.He still continues in Bangalore.

My wife was telling me I donot know my kuladeivam..Etc when I thought of this situation.Of course Venkatachalapathi is our kuladeivam and Manapallikkavu our Kaavu as heard from our elders.

Ofcourse my children and grandchildren will have lesser idea about Thondikulam .and may know it as a place in India.

.
There are hardly 20 families or so in Thondikualam and all must be related to each other but migration to other places have made such a situation .Also many of them are abroad and come home rarely. There is one famous Sasthapreedhi festival yearly when many people come home
.

Nurani is the adjacent big village and many males marry from Nurani. My mother is from a large family in Nurani..Being married at age of 9 she also did not have much remembrances of the place.

Expiry date for Surgical cotton??

Recently I read somewhere a child taking cough syrup which had become poisonous after crossing the expiry date marked in the bottle faced problems later.
Our Manni  sister in law was with us for a fortnight last month ..While she was happy with our hospitality, provision of veena for her daily use and a room for coaching music online through telephone, Skype, etc we too enjoyed her stay with us.While she had stock of her daily medicines she had some pain at back one of these days She asked me some pain ointment..Bengyn or so.I searched my dispensary, got a tube some diclofenac plus eucalyptus combination and got  applied to her by my spouse. After she recovered I gave the tube to her and asked her to check if it showed any expiry date... Unfortunately it had crossed the expiry date. But still it worked.
Today after returning from walk to beach I had a small cut or bruise on the foot.....left leg...
..giving little discomfort after reaching home.I got some surgical cotton for cleaning the cut after washing and applied Dettol antiseptic brought by her.Later I found the expiry date marked was 14/6...Probably June 2014.
May be I may need new antiseptic Dettol if the healing doesn't disappear .
I think there is no expiry date
for dressing cotton...

Believe the Balancesheet ratios

Believe the Balance sheet ratios
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Behold any yearend Balance Sheet,
Produced by Accountants high rate,
Portrays an arena of corporate game,
Assets and Liabilities comprising the team.

Capital gets ploughed to free reserves,
Devoid of intangible goodwill and others,
Build up the net worth in infinite height,
Enrich the stakeholders’ a bonus treat.

Current is always valuable,
Current ratio more reliable,
Sum of the cash and paid stock,
Generate the working capital block.

Co-exist the debtors and creditors current,
Their ratio is sure determinant,
Displays the liquid state of the firm,
Good debts and credits in realizable form.

The gap of assets and liabilities,
Achieved by instant activities,
Provide the day to day funds required,
Instill the form of working capital required.

Is there any company without public equity
Borrowing the funds from Banks of quality,
The ratio of debts and equity,
Shows signs of solvent quantity.

Some firms make huge and high profits,
Beside their increase in sales targets,
Whither they reach a good and real,
Gross profit ratio of high level.

Abundant are many such Balance Sheet tips,
As coverage to service the long term debts,
Debtors and creditors too form ratios,
Operating along with earning per share.

Fifty years old friends with addresses stale...

During last few days in final BSC class ending inMarch 1967 I had collected
names of the classmates with their addresses thinking they would remain in same places. Now I realise most of them have left Bangalore but their addresses remain..Ofcourse I didnot dare to get the addresses of teachers...being afraid to meet them anywhere outside college...
I used to collect autographs from my teachers and friends......one of them wrote....Failures are only stepping stones to success...
another wrote ..Life is not a bed of roses....
another wrote...Full many of gem of purest ray serene  etc....ending
the deep unfathomed caves of ocean bear..
We had two ladies in the class and one Christian sister ...I could get the autograph from two of them...Sorry to feel I have not met most of them for last fifty years...
Like many other things I am yet to trace  out  the autograph book which I had preserved caefully...

I was borne when India was not independent???

Among many achievements I possess,I was born in June 1947 before India got independence on 15 th August,1947.And my birthdate was 19 it is considered special number . I used to tell my spouse and children that I was born during British rule and hence possesses qualities such as strict, punctual ,honest, etc .

Incidentally I remember my School days in Bangalore after 1960 .My father was a retired person and he used to guide us in learning English Grammar.During holidays we four or five ...3 brothers,2 sisters, one niece all studying in Seshadripuram High School,Bangalore used to have following routine  . We are from a large family with over a dozen children..In a joint middle-class family.

Chanting one chapter of Bagavad Gita.He used to chant from book,we had to see Gita Press book, follow and chant .it used to be good making us strong in Sanskrit and understanding the essence of Bagavadgita namely ...Do your duty...Donot think of results.... Whatever is bound to happen will occur, what ever happened is for good,etc..

In the morning after taking bath he used to do Sooryanamaskaram chanting Aadhithyahrudhayam ...I had to join him.He used to do yogasanas including shiras aasana.

Since I was not a recognised Brahmachari  being without poonal, sandhyavandanam was not  performed dailytill I got my Poonal  while I was in 2 nd year BSC.

He had a book of Wren and Martin for English, used to guide all of us questions in Grammar,Active voice,Ideoms, figures of speech,Simile,Pathetic fallacy, pun, etc. It was nice we could learn Grammar well.

Then he used to ask questions from General Knowledge...Some questions like Prime Minister, President,Finance Minister,State ministers, etc.it was around 1957 or so we had hardly 12 states with Congress ruling everywhere. We remember his telling our mother to vote for Congress when they used to cast votes in Elections.May be in 1957 first ministry formed by Communist party was formed in Kerala.Probably the ministry was dismissed within 2 years and the state had distinction being under President's rule for over 15 times.

It was today I saw results of Uttarakhand,Uttar Pradesh,Manipur, etc being won by BJP  ..They rule other states like Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh Assam,Arunachalpradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, etc ..While Congress and sllisnce have  power in Karnataka,Punjab, etc Tamilnadu they have the Dravidian party ADMK,and other parties ruling states are Telengana,Aam Aadmi,Communist alliance,Trinamool Congress etc with more than 20 states all over India.

The BJP ....if possesses sufficient assembly and Rajyasabha seats can have good governance by ability to pass bills in both the houses .

Let us hope for stable Governments in states and centre.

Ofcourse among various other things    ,my father used to see we go to temples, chant Vishnusahasrananam,Aadhithyahrudhayam,Mahishasuramardhini stotram,Sundarakantam daily..Later I have started reading Narayaneeyam, Subramanya Bhujangam, etc ..Daily.

We should follow our parents.

Copy and paste....?????

Copyy and paste....????
+++++++++++-----++++++

One of my friends had posted in Facebook..

My son appears for 10 th exam starting tomorrow.Pray for him..

I sent my wishes ...Copied from another well-wisher and posted in Facebook.

நன்கு பரீட்சை எழுதி,
நல்ல மதிப்பெண் பெற
நல் வாழ்த்துக்கள்.

Later I realised...The student should not note my copying and pasting and do so in exam...In a lighter vein.

When I don't know to write in Tamil here,I copy others..But I never copied from others in any of my exams in my history...

Contacts lost...need her help..

I was having this Samsung cellphone having not many features...you can telephone to any number receive calls, hear FM music etc .

Last year when I went to USA my son in law got me a Motorola X Smartphone... With more features. .It serves as a handy computer.... Plus phone... Mainly I get it connected through Wi Fi  Modem connected to landline for internet purposes I am able to use Facebook read newspapers, see grandchildren  children, etc through Skype ...watch stock exchange movements through Rediff, Economic Times,,read blogs, write blogs, etc I am also able to use the messenger for sending messages and receive SMS ,etc .but I donot use it for seeing videos, U Tubes, etc The complaint from my wife is that I donot do any productive work instead am always busy with the smartphone...She even objects my using it as a camera or use WhatsApp through it.  See the plight......Of course when she wants auto or taxi, she asks me to use Ola App and Amazon App  for buying some book, etc through the phone. .

My old phone Samsung I gave  her for use  She  does not  know how to charge it from mains or get credit by paying Vodafone dealer She has some hundred numbers saved in it as contacts..mostly her relatives and none of them ever call her or my number.but she calls all of them regularly for broadcasting all news Even that I have saved in the phone. She does not know even the telephone number of the cellphone... I have saved it as My number in the phone... She is not much familiar with cellphone or computer operations...despite my teaching her so many things orally......

She goes out to Mylapore, T Nagar,Adyar etc and I give the phone to her I have taught her how to receive calls After she goes out,I telephone say after one hour to find out where she is..and to tell her I am making coffee with decoction  she has kept  saved or for eating any fruits available till she returns. she responds..and thus the phone is useful between us for communication and sanction or approval...But she will never telephone to my number and inform me where she is...When some call comes in my phone she takes it does not swipe or click answer properly and the line gets disconnected. What can I do?

So this is how the cellphone is useful between us..

But recently it has become necessary for me to contact her for knowing telephone numbers of my contacts .During my recent visit to USA while I was spending time with my phone...was seeing apps, options and settings and while pressing some button all contacts disappeared.Otherwise  I could get the dialled numbers, calls received, and other numbers of contacts stored in phone. In the past once I had pressed some wrong button changed language and set it for operation by blind persons. At that time I got it fixed paying Rs 650 to the phone repairing guy. This time when I went to him with the problem he said some software is gone and would replace it on paying Rs.850.This time I told my wife the repair cost for approval which she refused saying no need to have contacts with you which is a recurring unproductive cost.Instead you contact me through my number and I have all contacts stored. She has more of her friends and relatives contacts in her new Microsoft phone than those of mine. Also now she can filter and allow me only required calls to be made  stipulating time limit  .Incidentally my memory is so poor I donot remember telephone numbers of my contacts... Atlast, I am compelled to remember her phone number lest I cannot contact any others...The numbers available in my phonethrough WhatsApp contacts  are not many and thus her help has become necessary ..

That is the position....

Mangalyam tantunanena mama jeevana hetuna: kanthe badhnami subhage twam jeeva sarada satam ||

Tying the thali or the mangalsutra around the bride's neck by the groom is one of the most important rituals of a hindu wedding.

While the groom ties three knots, the pundit chants this sloka which means; “This is a sacred thread. This is essential for my long life. I tie this around your neck O maiden having many auspicious attributes. May you live happily for a hundred years (with me).”

I couldnot meet her again ...Lakshmi...

It was 2 PM... 7 th June,2016..
I had to go out for getting printout of our boarding passes etc.  I went and spoke to my fruit vendor Lakshmi about my voyage abroad She inquired how long I will stay there and later conveyed good wishes for happy stay abroad and return.
I felt happy seeing her. ..and realized I would miss her for some months ..
I returned after us trip this month. While going to buy fruits in the market used to search her..Unable to see thought she was probably ill...and.would come back soon...
Today on 20th.Jan while going to  the market searched her ,couldn't see her ...bought rasthali fruits from woman resembling Lakshmi. With much mental hesitation I asked her ...Lakshmi Amma engey...She told Lakshmi Amma erandhu poyitta ..Naalu masam munnadi..(.In English .  I asked her where is Lakshmi...She replied ...Lakshmi left us all four months back) .I felt shocked and felt I could have  seen her had I returned from USA earlier.
I ascertained she passed away due to wheezing trouble...and the girl who gave me fruits now was related to her. ..oragathi.magal..
(In English. .
Co sister's daughter I think )
Now I can see Lakshmi in her .
My condolences to her family members who do not know me.
Felt my elder sister was also one  Lakshmi who stayed with us for a few years.
That is life.
I remember LAKSHMI...

Mangoes at California....Adai,Aviyal at Tiruchirapalli

Orange is a city located in Orange County, California. California is a state of fruits and nuts...My granddaughter calls her new house in San Jose as orange trees' house and she is studying in school   Appleseed  Montessori at Sunnyvale CA..My daughter works in Kaiser Perrmanente Medical Center,Santa Clara  CA which she says is next to I pad,etc maker Apple Inc.
++++++++++++++++++++++++
Apple is an American multinational technology company that is  headquartered in Cupertino, California, which  designs, develops, and sells consumer electronics, computer software, and online services

**********************************

Many cities, counties, states in USA  are having names related to fruits.

I recollect one place Tiruchirapalli in Tamil nadu where we have lived for six years from 1988 famous for sugarcane, paddy, banana fruits, mangoes, etc .It was pleasure for children to climb trees and pluck mangoes, gua fruits  and eat after sharing with others. I remember my elder sister Lakshmi who visited us at Tiruchirapalli once asking in our language Tamil Malayalam ..''Raghavaa ..oru perakkai.. porichu tharaya..meaning   Oh Raghava will you  pluck and get me one gua fruit ??? Incidentally I recollect her staying at Mayavaram Lodge , Tiruchirapalli and getting me  Adai Aviyal, etc there   My eldest sister Parvathi who visited us once during Mahamaham  festival of Kumbakonam on 18 th February,1992 also tasted the mangoes and accompanied us to Kumbakonam for seeing the festival and  Jayalalithaa on her birthday.. Magam star.
Mango pickles like Avakkai, etc were  made, distributed to relatives and stored in ceramic jars for whole year and ripe fruits eaten .. Ofcourse my spouse took care of selling  surplus fruits, coconuts and drumsticks at very good rates and saving  money from the proceeds . In addition there were  many coconut trees in the house at Thillainagar, Tiruchirapalli ..with tender coconuts, the sweet water and the coconuts from a number of trees  providing us cool water, coconuts for making daily dishes like sambar, koottu, chutney, etc.

Here in Fremont CA at our son's house, we have the following trees, plants, grapevines  growing fruits.

Grapes,
Pomegranate,
Apple,
Kiwi fruit,
Pear,
Avacado,.
Plum,
Gua ..a variety,

Orange and lemon plants are just  planted and are growing.

There are twenty-four rose plants surrounding the house with different colours flowering in abundance during seasons.I pluck and keep one flower in front of lamp near the pictures of God..Goddess daily...

Bagavad Gita  says...

patram pushpam phalam toyam yo me bhaktyaa prayacchati |
tadaham bhaktyupahritamashnaami prayataatmanaha || 26 ||

One who presents a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water with devotion to me, I will consume that loving gift from that pure hearted being.

Tomato large size and small suze ...... ..
..Cherry tomatoes or grape tomatoes ..as called  are grown throughout the year in large quantities ..

It is in daughter's new house at San Jose..near  Cupertino,CA we have trees of orange, lemon and naarthangai grown in large quantities throughout the year and thus granddaughter calls is Orange Tree house  .

It is tasty and medically healthy to eat some of these fruits..

We eat apple daily .as we have heard...An apple a day keeps the Doctor away....

Beautiful indeed....Our life also passes through such seasons one after the other...in Economics we see trade cycles,in Politics we see changes ....All these are wonders of Nature....I studied in school..A book of wonder is a book of Nature...And realised the veracity of the statement...

Thanksgiving Day at Pacific Grove....CA

We thank others in the list like  Teachers,...our Doctors, parents in law,Son in law, daughter in law, may be brother in law,, sister in law ,the examiners who corrected our Answer Books, the employer who provided you wherewithal to live and many others But it is surprisingly obvious to see the wife does not thank her husband or vice versa.Probably Hindu Marriage Act Provisions  treat the wife and husband as a single entity without requiring individual separation of thought, life and survival and perhaps expression of Thanks between them...

We desire to have a family re union every year....and during Thanksgiving day.

After picnic to Lake Tahoe last week,we stayed  back at Fremont .CA In an emergency sent a message to daughter Chitra at Santa  CA Clara as under.

We go to Pacific grove this evening... return tomorrow....

My tab..Nebilong. .1 remaining..others Glycomet GP2...Amma"s tablet..GPS 850..and clopilet A 75 for both also found short...They are in the black bag at your house  or in plastic boxes above..See how we can get them...May be we may meet tomorrow...

She could not join us..

Pacific Drive is one of the famous scenic drives in the world. We pass through majestic Del Monte Forest and along the dramatic Pacific Coast.

We left by car around 7 PM ..reached by 8 30 ....Self,wife Brindha, son Rajesh ,d in law Shwetha Narayanan, granddaughters Dhwani and Jahnvi...

After checking into cottage Seebreeze no 121, got hot Pitza from Papa Jones from a nearby place...Next morning got up early, prepared  coffee using the machine went to the lounge by 8 am  for having murfin, cake, coffee, banana being complimentary breakfast provided.

It was nice passing through 17 mile Drive seeing various places of interest.

Monterey California journey was through the abodes and colourful gardens of historic nature where one could see and enjoy beauty of land and sea which made  it destination for fishermen scientists, artists and writers. It was an enjoyable journey through one of the most scenic drives in the world..The 17 Mile Drive comprised sight of Del Monte Forest and other dramatic Pacific Coast.

Some of the important places.

Shepherd's Knoll

The inn and links at Spanish Bay

The Restless Sea

China Rock

Bird Rock

Spyglass Hill Golf Course

The ghost tree

Crocker Grove,

Pebble Besch

Monarch Butterfly gardens,

and others..

The tall trees  around   200 years old and many different.Eucalyptus trees were covering the whole Area and colourful beaches. The sand was white ,the tidal waves  raising to over 20ft a common sight. The temperature was around 5 degrees centigrade. It was nice watching groups of butterflies travelling  between flowers causing  pollinaton and helping  vegetatable growth.

We had lunch at Carmel Bakery and sight of various shops...

That was the trip enjoyed..

Photos are uploaded separately..

Friends seen through Medical Insurance list..

Before the BSc results of Bangalore university were published in June1967,I had seen a two line advertisement in Deccan Herald ,a newspaper stating Representatives required for an International Pharmaceutical firm.In response to my application I was called for interview at West End Hotel,Bangalore .
..Mr J.S.Mehta and his newly married wife were impressed with my Hand...... Writing,Expression and Personality and was called for Final Interview at BOMBAY and selected as a Representative. It was nice touring various places in South India, meeting people,Medical Shops,Doctors, and marketing the products uttering white lie now and then.During one of my visits to Bangalore where old and aged parents were living with other siblings,my mother was asking if I could avoid this to traveling job and get a job stationed in Bangalore. So my desire for another job made me approach other employers like Banks, apply for Income Tax Inspectors exam,I AS,etc....It was one of my colleagues who conveyed existence of vacancies in Bank of India BANGALORE where I submitted my application for post of an Assistant.I was called for a
written test .Probably I cleared all problems in Arithmetic and wrote an essay in impeccable language with good  handwriting.I was selected...In the Interview committee consisting the Manager,Nadkarni and the Accountant,G.Thyagarajan I was asked a few questions including my desire in Bank.I answered I desire to retire as General Manager....
Later my colleagues used to say that one of the interviewers had a daughter studying in school for whom he was searching a good match and probably selected me for that post also.Luck didnot favour me in getting Double Designations..
Of course my desires to join Msc Mathematics at BANGALORE or appear for IAS etc did not materialise further. However ,after joining Bank of India,I got calls from Income Tax Dept and SBM for appointment.Having joined Bank and became a friend of many it was decided to continue in Bank, get promoted ,get married and lead a peaceful life. I got promoted to Officer's cadre in 1975 along with G.Narayanan,S.Viswanathan,S.Rajagopal and Jayanth Padukone.Despite possessing qualifications like BSc,LLB,CAIIB and serving 32 years as Officer,I could not reach the top.Of course I served as in charge of Branches for 10 of them and was in Inspection and Audit for a long term.During my appearing for  interviews over ten times till retirement
for Senior Grade ,it was my experience in many of the Interview committees the persons who interviewed were my Juniors or who had worked under me.It was nice none of them favored me and got me undeserving promotion although I had answered all their questions.
Now after retirement it was during last year a Medical Insurance was made applicable to retirees. This year the Insurance Company extended more Domiciliary treatments provided you pay higher premium. Many of the retirees opted for the same as it covers Diabetes Hypertension, Cataract Operations etc.In these days more money is spent by senior citizen in buying medicines or having  diagnostic / Lab tests, Regular checkup than money spent for food or clothing .I too opted for the Insurance...I found a list of persons around 25000 who opted this....of course many of them have other Insurance policies also.
In the list I was happy to see the names of a few of them who have worked with me,who know me and who also avail Medical Insurance like me.Many of them have reached top posts in Bank ..but join me in the Insurance matter.I give below names of a few colleagues, friends, etc.
Seshasayee.Rangarajan.

It was a very happy moment for me to see so many of my friends, colleagues, etc in a list showing people who insure and survive..
Wishing happy health to all, lesser hospitalization and full settlement of claims  made  for  absolute need......
Note.....
..
In USA medical costs are very high and unless you have cover for it life is difficult here When we come to USA on visit,we bring medicines as prescribed for 6 months as otherwise we or our children cannot afford the cost here.
Medicines are cheaper in INDIA...

Time zone changes....I got my morning coffee an hour late....

During  our recent visit to usa it was made compulsory that I get up by 7 AM daily ,wake up my spouse .She used to brush teeth and get me filter coffee  made within  five minutes. The addiction to coffee is so much that we never drink tea offered anywhere. In India especially in Chennai Sunlight used to be seen early and hence I used to get up by 6 AM ...make coffee and drink.

It was today the 6 th November, when I got up at 7 AM I was told the time clock should be rolled back by one hour on account of Time changes in various Time  zones in USA.Conseqently  time was one hour behind,I had to wait for one more hour to get my Coffee. It doesn't happen in India. It is a time saving measure implemented in USA and some other countries.....

Non marriage or non remarriage certificate...???

While in service in my first year after graduation as a Representative in an American Pharmaceutical firm in Bombay and Area of Sales being South India,it was programmed by the employer that I return to Head Quarters after each Tour ...My stay in HQ used to be for a week ....and perhaps the employer had treated me as alive and present on duty throughout unless specifically requested, leave was granted .Consequently my monthly emoluments used to be credited to my Bank Account monthly and other Daily allowances used to be accounted by me from Advance received while leaving on tour.

It was later I joined a Public Sector Bank in Bangalore. In 1968..and worked at various places till superannuation on 30.6.2007.......
till reaching the age of sixty. In all these Branches,it was customary for any employee to sign the Attendance Register after entering the Branch premises.Perhaps this served as a document evidencing physical presence or existence of an employee for enabling the employer to pay his pay periodically.

After retirement it was found necessary to be physically present at the Branch where pension is paid for submitting Life Certificate in November every year.

During my stay in usa during November on previous years,I could talk to the Branch Manager over phone confirming I am alive informing about my arrival at the Branch in India in December...The Manager used to be kind enough to listen to my appeal and wait till December for
stopping payment of pension.

In alighter vein, during one of my other years when I was present in Madras, the Branch staff requested me to sign a declaration stating I was married and not remarried during the year.Although it was perhaps applicable to family pensioners I had to sign where ever they asked me to sign.In order to confirm my declaration to the Branch,I took my spouse to the Branch next day...gave them an affidavit from her stating she got married to me in 1974.....and that her husband had not remarried any time after marrying her.

Probably for employees who retired under Bank's VRS scheme, they insist on a non re employment declaration every year which I sign and give them although may not be relevant.

Now many parents who are retired and staying with children abroad say in USA,UK etc it becomes necessary for submission of life certificate in November every year. The employers have given the option to such pensioners staying abroad to submit the life certificate issued by any Indian Public Sector Banks and scan and mail the
same to pension paying Branch followed by hardcopy or original by post.Hope these Public Sector Banks do not levy any charges..even 100$....as it would be wiser to wait and go to pension paying Branch in December or later and get arrears of pension even if stopped for non submission of life certificate within stipulated time.

Just now I observed some Banks are offering digital life Certification provided the Pensioner calls at the Pension Paying Branch along with Aadhar Card and cellphone having service within India.May be I can utilise the said services after returning to INDIA...

May be it would not be surprising with the advancement of science and technology, microchips may get installed in human body transmitting and signaling existence or say an alternative to Life Certificate to the Pension or Annuity paying agencies or employers....

Pensioners please note......Thank you......
